Join us on Friday January 27, 2012 and meet South Florida photographer John Gillan at the Montecristo Lounge from 8:00pm-10:30pm. 

John will talk about his ethereal and whimsical collection "Pinhole II" which are mages taken with a lensless camera, simply a box with a hole in it using 4" x 5" sheet film. Images were taken throughout Florida, New York, Paris and Amsterdam. 

This is the eighth exhibit and the last in the Art and Cigars Series that began when the Montecristo Lounge opened in February 2011.

The images in this collection are available as limited edition fine art and also as open editions. Many of the pieces are in private and commercial installations in hotels, cruise ships, hospitals and corporate offices.

Cuenca's Montecristo Lounge was chosen "2011 Best Art Gallery/Art and Culture at the Best of Hollywood Contest" . Hollywood Gazette November 2011, Page 24, states:

(...) The Montecristo Lounge is a private art exhibition gallery adjacent to the popular downtown cigar shop Cuenca Cigars, a Hollywood Hot Spot for over four years. Artist John Gillan can often be found at the Montecristo Lounge on Friday nights. Gillan approched owner Ana Cuenca about displaying his Art and She loved the idea. 

Last Month collection was Polaroid SX-70, which is a documentation of South Florida where each photograph was manipulated after being exposed. Cuenca Cigars, Hollywood, Florida. November 10th, 2011. Did you ever wonder if there was a way to cut a cigar and never worry about getting bits of tobacco in your mouth? Here is a new cigar cutting technology that does that and more. You may even enjoy smoking short fill cigars. Today we are introducing this new and revolutionary new cigar cutter design from Cigar Tech. They are calling in it:"SHURIKEN"  ("blade hidden in the hand"), otherwise known as a Japanese throwing star. The cutter, which looks like a giant capsule, has 6 razor sharp blades inside that cut slits around the top of the cigar. This allows the smoker to control the draw of their cigar by the amount of pressure applied. The new term for this cutting technique is called "I Draw Technology."

The cutter will be available in plastic composite models with a $25.00 SRP, as well as various anodized aluminum models with SRP's ranging from $35.00-$40.00.

"SHURIKEN" with I-Draw Technology, allow you to control the cigar's draw. 

How? Shuriken leaves the cap intact, and cuts six razor thin slits around the outside of the cigar. 

Why? Most of a cigar's taste is in the wrapper. By leaving the cap intact, the cigar's flavor intensifies. by cutting slits around the outside, the smoke draws more evenly throughout the entire cigar. This cutting method cools the smoke and redirects it toward the front of the pal;ate where the most pleasant tastes are experienced.

Directions. When cutting with a Shriken, hold the cigar in one hand, push the cigar streight in-slow and steady with the other hand until it stops. You'll need a through cut, but don't crush the cap. Do not twist, wiggle or rotate the cigar. This may cause damage to the cigar and the blades of the cutter.

Your first few draws should include rotating the cigar while while applying slight pressure to open the razor slits to your desired taste. You will now be able to control the draw of your cigar, using this I-Draw technology!

Warnings: Keep out the reach of childrens. Do not insert any body parts. Use care when extracting tobacco from the Shuriken by using tweezers.

Undercrown was created at the rolling tables by Drew Estate’s best rollers - not in a board room or meeting. The story goes as such: the rollers loved the original Liga Privada No. 9 blend so much that it was all they ever smoked. While most would consider that a ringing endorsement, Drew Estate was worried about the availability of the tobaccos. The primings used for the No. 9 aren’t easy to come by so the rollers had to quit smoking them – sort of. The rollers improvised and used different primings of the same tobacco to make a new blend they too could enjoy. Cuenca Cigars of Hollywood Fourth Anniversary

Cuenca Cigars of Hollywood Florida is about to celebrate its Fourth Anniversary this coming October. We can’t believe that four years have passed by so quickly, can you?

It has been a long journey in the making. We have gone from a quaint little cigar shop in 2007 to the “2011 Hollywood Hot Spot Winner”. Our four years have been full of interior decorating upgrades, the addition of numerous cigar brands, and tons of new friends. Our friends, which we refer to humbly as the “Cuencaians”, have been offered over the past four years a vast variety of events, art exhibits, fine cigars, and the Florida weather which we all have come to love.

Some key elements have allowed our continued growth. First and foremost, our long lasting relationship with Altadis USA, one of - if not the biggest globally known manufacturer and distributor of fine cigars. The relationship allows for a joint venture through the member's only Montecristo Lounge- the grand opening which we enthusiastically celebrated at the beginning of 2011.

The Suspenders.Our second large step was to engage in acquiring corporate sponsors, and so we did. Today, we are proud to have Mr. Sylvain Van Embden from Timeless-Destinations, Mr. Daniel Martin and Mr. David Bennett from Connections for Business, Mr. Jorge L. Rodriguez from Allstate, Mr. Gus Cunningham and Mr. Neal Quinn from Prolexic Technologies, and Mr. Anthony Rolon from World Web Partners. This group of fine people has been an instrumental part of our success and continuous growth. They offer us their business experience and knowledge, which have helped to expand our overall business and vision.

We now had a strong relationship with a global renounced cigar manufacturer and distributor and five (5) key sponsors, so what was next? How about adding to our goal cultural events? And so came the idea of “Art and Cigars”, by artist John Gillan. Mr. Gillan with his 30 years of experience in art and photography has re-awakened our creative side and gotten us to cherish the simple things in life.

The Exhibit.This month, we are celebrating his fourth exhibit "Smallwood Store and the Seminoles"; a tribute to the first American people. The monthly exhibits have brought us diversity, new visions as well as many new friends. One of the previous exhibits was "100 - Life at 100 and Beyond", a tribute to the oldest and most often forgotten part of our society, the elderly. This exhibit was a true celebration of life of an inspiring generation.

The next exhibit will be, "Places in Time", a collection of Miami's historic architecture, which brought awareness to the importance of historic preservation.

Every month we celebrate the freedom to smoke fine cigars and we learn about new wines and trendy new beers. We have tried and paired them all with a nice cigar. When it comes to Cigars, wines and beers, the Cuencaians have been enthusiastic learners. Our journey has become a very interesting and always changing one. It has definitely been a learning experience where our friendly clientele has had a very import role. It certainly wouldn't be possible without them.

When it's time for joy, Cuenca Cigars is the perfect match for cigars and friends. This intimate shop and lounge is located in pictorial Downtown Hollywood. It has become a reason for people all around the world to visit Florida and this beautiful town. The Florida weather, the vast selection of cigars and beers, the greatest friends and patrons, the variety of ethnic culture work harmoniously with the surrounding restaurants and shops. All of these elements have made this Fourth Anniversary a reality.
